Marion Demolition for a Growing County Seat
Marion grew from 4,391 residents in 1990 to 13,752 at the 2020 census. Demolition contractors in Marion work in a town that is mostly young by housing age, but that has deep roots as the Crittenden County seat. Our work here ranges from backyard jobs in newer neighborhoods to older houses near the courthouse and farm buildings on the edges of town.
An old county seat
Marion was laid out in 1837, incorporated on March 5, 1896, and named for landowner Marion Tolbert. The first brick courthouse burned in 1908 and was replaced by the current Crittenden County Courthouse. A marker commemorates the steamboat Sultana, which exploded near Mound City just east of Marion on April 27, 1865. The older streets near the courthouse hold houses from well before the recent growth, and those are the ones that need the closest look before demolition.
Two kinds of floodplain
Marion straddles the Northern Backswamps to the west and the Northern Holocene Meander Belts to the east, both part of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain. The backswamps were historically bald cypress, water tupelo and oak forest with seasonal flooding, and much of that land has been drained for farming and towns. The soil can stay wet long after rain. We plan equipment access and timing around it and backfill old foundations with material that drains.
Newer neighborhoods
Most of Marion's homes were built during the growth since 1990. Calls from those neighborhoods are usually for pool removal, breaking out a patio or driveway, taking down a shed, or gutting a kitchen or bath. We size equipment for the yard, protect fences and landscaping, and haul everything away.
Farm buildings at the edges
Outside town, old barns, equipment sheds and grain structures come down when land changes hands. We take them apart safely, separate metal for recycling and break out slabs if the new owner wants clean ground. Wells and septic tanks are found before we dig.
Arkansas rules
Marion is in Arkansas. Demolition permits come from the city, and Arkansas 811 needs two working days of notice before excavation. Utilities are disconnected and confirmed off before we start. Older buildings get an asbestos inspection when their age calls for one.
What full removal means on a newer house
Most houses built in Marion since 1990 sit on concrete slabs. When one of those comes down, full removal includes the slab, the footings under it, the driveway and walks if you want them gone, and the plumbing stubs in the slab. The sewer lateral is capped as the permit requires. The hole left by the footings is filled and compacted, and the lot is graded. If you plan to rebuild on the same footprint, ask your builder whether any of the old slab could be reused before we break it out. Usually it cannot, but it is worth asking.

Marion Questions
Do you take small jobs in Marion, like one shed?
Yes. Sheds, carports, pads and patios are a regular part of our work.
What notice does Arkansas require before digging?
Arkansas 811 needs two working days of notice. We place the request before pulling any foundation or slab.
Can you clear old farm buildings?
Yes. We take them down, recycle the metal, break out slabs if wanted and leave the ground graded.
Can you work in the older streets near the courthouse?
Yes. Older houses there get a closer look for materials that need testing, and we plan truck access for the narrower streets. We also protect the sidewalk, trees and neighboring yards, and sweep the street at the end of each day.
Do you remove the slab and footings too?
Yes, if you want a clean lot. We break out the slab and footings, cap the sewer as required, backfill and grade.
