How We Take Things Down

Demolition Contractors Memphis removes houses, garages, sheds, pools, concrete and building interiors across Memphis and Shelby County, plus light commercial tear-downs. The work ranges from one storm-damaged carport to clearing a whole residential lot down to graded dirt.

Memphis has an old housing stock. Point2Homes, summarizing Census data, puts the median build year for the city's homes at 1970, with roughly two out of three built before 1980. Structures from that era can hide asbestos in floor tile, mastic, siding and pipe wrap, and many sit on crawlspaces with old gas, water and sewer lines running underneath. That is why we treat the paperwork and the shut-offs as part of the job, not a step someone else handles.

How a job runs

  • Walk it first. We look at the structure, the foundation, the driveway, trees, fences, the power drop and anything that has to stay standing.
  • Price it on paper. The estimate breaks out tear-down, hauling and disposal, foundation and slab removal, fill dirt and final grade, so you can compare bids line by line.
  • Check the address. Memphis, the suburban cities and unincorporated Shelby County each run their own process, and homes in a historic overlay district need Memphis Landmarks Commission review before a permit. We confirm what your property needs.
  • Shut-offs before machines. Gas, electric, water and sewer are disconnected and capped before demolition starts.
  • Leave it usable. The site is cleared, backfilled and graded so it drains, ready for seed, sod, a new slab or a new build.

If a partial demolition or a careful interior strip-out does the job for less than a full tear-down, the estimate says so.
